Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Your privacy matters. This Privacy Policy explains what information DailyPhrase ("the App") collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information. The App is developed and operated by Toni Marence ("we", "us", "our"), reachable at app@marence.at.

We follow the principles of data minimisation and privacy by design: we only collect what is strictly necessary, and we never sell your data.

2. Data we collect

2.1 Data stored on your device

DailyPhrase stores certain data locally on your device to provide its core functionality. Unless a specific feature below states otherwise, that data is not sent to servers operated by the Developer.

• Plans and progress stored locally on your device (SwiftData)
• Widget reads today’s phrase from shared on-device App Group storage
• Learning data stays on-device by default; Settings links to privacy policy and support on the web

2.1.1 Learning data on your device (SwiftData)

DailyPhrase stores your learning plans, progress, and related preferences using SwiftData on your iPhone or iPad. This data is used to provide the App on your device and, by default, is not uploaded to servers operated by the Developer.

2.1.2 Widget and App Group

The DailyPhrase home-screen and lock-screen widgets read today’s phrase, translation, pronunciation, and context from a shared App Group container that the main app and the WidgetKit extension can access. This sharing happens on your device so the widget can update without launching the full app. The Developer does not receive this data solely because the widget refreshes.

2.1.3 Deleting your data in the App

You can remove learning data from the App using the option in Settings (for example, delete all local data). Removing the App from your device also deletes app data according to Apple’s device storage behaviour unless you use separate backup or sync features offered by Apple.

2.1.4 Optional features and third-party processing

Some features—such as tools that help create or adapt learning plans—may use network services or third-party systems (including language-model based services). When you choose to use those features, limited content from that flow may be sent to the relevant provider to generate a result. Such processing is governed by those providers’ terms and privacy notices in addition to this Policy. We aim to keep on-device learning data private by default and only send what is needed for the feature you actively use.

2.2 Contact form data

If you submit a message through our contact form at apps.marence.at/apps/dailyphrase, we collect:

• Your name and email address
• Your message content
• The date and time of submission

This data is stored securely on our server solely to respond to your enquiry and is deleted after it is no longer needed.

2.3 Analytics & crash reporting

The App may use Apple's standard analytics tools (App Store Connect Analytics) which provide aggregate, anonymised metrics. We do not use third-party advertising trackers. No personally identifiable information is transmitted through analytics.

3. How we use your data

We use the collected data exclusively to:

• Provide and improve the functionality of DailyPhrase
• Respond to support requests submitted via the contact form
• Understand how the App is used in aggregate to prioritise improvements

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any automated decision-making.

4. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties, except as required by applicable law (e.g. a court order) or with your explicit consent.

The App is distributed through Apple's App Store. Apple may collect certain technical data as described in Apple's own Privacy Policy .

5. Data retention

Data stored locally on your device is kept until you delete the App or clear the App's data in iOS Settings. Contact form submissions are retained for up to 12 months and then permanently deleted.

6. Your rights (GDPR / EU residents)

If you are located in the European Union, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
• Erasure — request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
• Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
• Objection — object to processing of your data

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at app@marence.at. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Children's privacy

DailyPhrase is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal data to us, please contact us immediately.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
